How to prepare to file an insurance claim
The last thing most of us want to think about after our home is damaged is the hassle of filing a claim with our insurance company. Here are some easy tips for streamlining the process and getting the work done while keeping costs low!
Know What Your Policy Covers
It's important to find out what your insurance policy will cover when it comes to roof repairs or replacement. The age of your roof can be a big factor in determining how much an insurance company will pay to cover damage. Contact your insurance provider to find out if your roof is covered at its depreciated value at the time of the damage or fully covered, and what counts as normal maintenance.
Have the Right Documentation Ready
To best document the extent of damage done to your roof, take periodical "before" pictures when you have regular maintenance done. These will help an insurance adjuster to determine the extent of coverable damage by comparing the photos to what your roof looks like after a storm. In addition, keep records of all invoices and bills from work done to give to your claims personnel.
Hire a Contractor Who Has Experience With Insurance Claims
Many contractors, including EERC, have experience giving estimates that streamline the claims process with insurance companies. Look for a contractor that is familiar with what insurance companies are looking for and will help guide you through the process.
